Piaggio Group boots sales and market share for commercial vehicles in Italy.

Vehicle deliveries up 4.8% and market share up 1.1 points from January-May 2009compared with the first 5 months of 2008.

Pontedera, 8 June 2009 – The Piaggio Group reported another month of year-on-year growth in commercial vehicle sales in May.

According to data published today by ANFIA and UNRAE on deliveries of commercial vehicles with GVWR up to 3.5 tons, in May 2009 Piaggio Veicoli Commerciali shipped a total of 533 vehicles on the Italian market, an improvement of 3.5% with respect to May 2008.

Market share in May 2009 was 3.3%, compared with a share of 2.4% in May 2008. The result confirms the continued growth, bucking the industry trend, of the Piaggio Group division active in the commercial vehicles business. Commerciali reported an increase of 4.8% on 2,286 vehicles sold in the first five months of 2008. Market share in the first five months of 2009 rose by 1.1 percentage points, with Piaggio Veicoli Commerciali holding a 3.2% share of the Italian market compared with 2.1% in the first five months of 2009. A key factor, in current market conditions, was the contribution of the low-emission vehicles – fitted with electric engines or “bi-fuel” engines for LPG and methane –available in the Piaggio Porter Eco-Solutions range, which accounted for more than 75% of the sales mix. A model featuring a completely new line, internal fittings and technical content was launched for this range recently.
