Paris, 27 June 2013 - The Piaggio Group has disclosed that, as a result of legal action taken to protect its own property rights during the "Salon de la Moto et du Scooter" held in Paris in November/December 2011, the Parisian High Court (Tribunal de Grande Instance) has recognised Piaggio's proprietary rights to the external forms of the Vespa.
Following the decision made by the law court in Paris, arrangements have been made to destroy the 49 scooters (like those shown in the photograph enclosed with this press release) which were on display at the French motorcycle show and which were a clear violation of Piaggio's proprietary rights. The company responsible for the infringement has also been ordered to pay all legal costs.
The Piaggio Group considers this to be a very important ruling as far as the protection of industrial and design property rights is concerned and, as in any other country in which Piaggio has promptly and quickly intervened to fight unfair competition and the infringement of property rights, considers the decision of the High Court in Paris to be an additional means of protecting the Vespa brand, global product of the Piaggio Group, in France.
