Pesaro, 23 June 2017 – Introducing “Sali a borgo”, the initiative promoted by Italian Tourism Agency ENIT, Moto Guzzi and “Motociclismo” magazine, in collaboration with the Association of “I Borghi più belli d’Italia” (Italy's most beautiful villages), committed to promoting the many wonders preserved in beautiful towns across central Italy.

Starting from Pesaro, from 23 June and over four weekends (23-25 June, 7-9 July, 21-23 July, 28-30 July), a number of the most stunning villages, or 'borghi', across Umbria, Marche, Lazio and Abruzzo will unveil their beauty to three Moto Guzzi V9 bikes that will cross the ancient streets, exploring the most hidden corners and breathing in the age-old history and traditions. Moto Guzzi was keen to share the values of authenticity and Italianness that characterise this initiative.

Promoting this initiative serves a dual purpose states ENIT advisor Fabio Maria Lazzerini to offer the regions that have suffered earthquakes our concrete support and to make our own contribution to promoting tourism across some of the most beautiful villages in Italy. “At the same time” continues Lazzerini “travelling these roads by bike will allow us to take an even closer look at the traditions and countless wonders that our land has to offer, because motorcycle touring provides a new perspective when it comes to discovering those more hidden places and architectonic sights”.

1,300 km of thrilling surprises, a slow-paced trip through some of Italy's lesser known areas, one turn after another, in discovery of unexpectedly breath-taking views, hidden jewels nestled between mountains where time seems to stand still, enchanting villages overlooking the sea or small, sheltered towns that trace a border between the green hills and the sky.

We thank ENIT, Moto Guzzi and Motociclismo” comments Mayor of Pesaro Matteo Ricci for having come up with these trips through some of the most beautiful villages in Italy, days that are sure to be a success, considering the extraordinary content. Starting from Pesaro is significant, in that it is our tribute to the Land of Riders and Engines, recently recognised by the Marche Region, in awareness of the fact that the culture of engines and motorcycling is an extraordinary flywheel via which to promote tourism, sport, and food and wine.”.

Participants will be able to enjoy a unique experience as they cross a variety of landscapes: from the gentle Adriatic coast to the rugged mountains of Gran Sasso, via the evocative Lake Trasimeno and the cool waterfalls of the Aniene a Subiaco river, the undulating hills that drop down towards the sea and the mediaeval fortresses that dominate over lonely valleys.

The towns and villages making up the four itineraries include: Pesaro, Urbino, Citerna, Montone, Castiglione del Lago and Panicale during stage one (23 – 25 June); Grottammare, Ascoli Piceno, Civitella del Tronto, Amatrice, Castel del Monte and Santo Stefano di Sessanio during stage two (7 – 9 July); Roma (Appia Antica), Subiaco, Rieti, Norcia, Ferentillo and Narni during stage three (21 – 23 July); Rocca San Giovanni, Passo Fonte Tettone, Sulmona, Opi, Boville Ernica and Sperlonga during stage four (28 – 30 July).

The Sali a Borgo initiative” comments Fiorello Primi, President of the Association “I Borghi più belli d’Italia” is important in that the itineraries take in some of the regions caught up in the recent earthquakes, demonstrating that the majority of the places and villages are perfectly capable of hosting tourists and visitors. The Mayors of the beautiful villages involved” he continues “were enthusiastic about joining the initiative and will do their best to welcome guests, while the 'borghi' - already so beautiful in themselves - will put on a unique, incomparable show”.

A plethora of events, including wine and food tastings, shows and historic re-enactments able to express the lively spirit of these places, will accompany the motorcyclists through the villages as they each enjoy a quiet, personal trip that will become a unanimous account of the essence of the regions crossed.

Using the hashtag #SaliaBorgo , fans will be able to follow the trip via a series of video shorts that will be put together each day, featuring the main highlights. These will be uploaded to ENIT social media pages (Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ENITItalia/; Twitter https://twitter.com/ENIT_italia) as well as those of Italia.it (Facebook https://www.facebook.com/italia.it, Twitter https://twitter.com/italia, Instagram https://www.instagram.com/italiait/).

In addition, short videos, created in real time with a video camera mounted on one of the bikes, will also be published on social media channels.
