Piaggio’s so-called TALENT RECRUITMENT strategy has been conceptualised to ensure that we are able to cherry pick the very best Engineering and Economics graduates directly from the universities every year. On an annual basis and in close partnership with company management, we announce 30 “apprenticeships” aimed at giving new graduates a meaningful opportunity to work in the company and understand its internal dynamics. The selection process involves a full day of assessment based on formal tests of numeric, verbal and abstract reasoning ability as well as personality analysis and face to face interviews. Successful candidates are assigned a clearly defined project to be undertaken with a tutor who is jointly responsible for the final outcome. The first three months of the training period are covered by an expense payment of €500 per month with an additional €250 monthly for those coming from outside of Tuscany. At the end of the project the trainee and tutor make a formal presentation to functional management. The trainees who produce the bodies of work adjudged to be the best each receive a reward of €4500. Company Management draw candidates for permanent employment from the pool of trainees Once permanently employed, the candidates continue their training for a further nine months. During this period they are exposed to the various business units via a Job Rotation process. In parallel with Job Rotation, candidates attend 11 days of classroom lectures spread over four or five months and specifically focused on professional training related to the actual position to be occupied. At the end of this investment period, which takes place within a context of permanent employment at a market related salary, candidates finally take up the position they were recruited to fill.
